Riva Non-Condensing Gas Boiler

Biasi Riva Wall Mount Boiler

Biasi Riva Series Wall Mounted Boiler

Biasi has brought heating efficiency to a peak with their low mass multi-pass cast iron boilers. Now they continue their reputation with Riva—a low mass – high efficiency wall-mounted gas boiler. Biasi’s reputation, engineering and quality control can be seen in the new Riva Boiler.

The Biasi Riva wall hung gas boilers are elegant compact home heating and hot water solutions, suitable for almost any home. The same boilers that have been available in Europe for ten years are now available in North America. The Biasi Riva boilers are factory shipped with all primary system components installed and contained within the boiler, making installation of these units fast and simple. All Riva boilers are ASME and CSA certified to ensure the utmost safety and quality.

Within the white enameled casing of the RIVA are a perfectly matched piped and wired set of components including expansion tanks (Heat & DHW), circulator, vents, valves and controls which operate in complete silence. Minimal exposed external boiler piping or boiler components are required to install the boiler. And since the RIVA is wallmounted, access to major components is at chest level for ease of installation and service. RIVA does not need a chimney because the venting system can be installed through the side-wall of your house to collect outside air and to exhaust flue gas.

The Heart of a Home Comfort System

Only The Best For Our Family

Our family loves to live in our older home.  We love the big trees in the area, the space between homes and our neighbours.  Owning an older home always provides challenges not encountered with a new home.  When retrofitting our home comfort system it had to be adaptable enough to work within a large number of constraints both interior and exterior of the structure while taking into account our present needs and future plans.
What does someone in the heating trade put in his own home to keep his family comfortable?  The answer is obvious, Only The Best.  The BIASI RIVA Combi we chose is an economical and adaptable “All-In-One” solution for our home comfort.

Riva Combi Boiler, The Heart of a Hydronic Warm Air System

BIASI Hydronic Warm Air System Overcomes Many Challenges.

There were a number of challenges that we were looking to overcome with the installation of a new home comfort system. The challenges were insufficient heating & cooling in several areas of the home, the need to increase the production of abundant, economical hot water, humidification problems and limited venting possibilities. The existing furnace, installed in 1982, was extremely inefficient and did not provide enough heating or cooling to the upstairs bedrooms. Our basement had been recently renovated with California ceilings  and any significant changes in ductwork would require a large amount these renovations to be redone. The new system was going to have provide more airflow and static pressure while using the existing ductwork.

We chose to use a Hydronic Warm Air System using a high efficiency, dependable BIASI RIVA Wall-Mounted “On-Demand” Gas Boiler as the heart of the system.  This was combined with a highly efficient, variable speed fan coil that provides exactly the correct amount of heat and airflow for our home.  Since both the boiler and fan coil have variable outputs, they can be adjusted throughout the year as our home's heating requirements change.

Indirect Water Heater in Riva Combi Boiler

Economical and Abundant Domestic Hot Water Required.
With the addition of our new daughter, we were requiring more hot water than we had in the past and we knew that as she grew this would only increase. Recognizing a families need for abundant domestic hot water, BIASI incorporated a 16 gallon insulated stainless steel indirect hot water heater in the Riva Combi.  This indirect hot water heater is capable of producing over 3 gallons per minute (3.3 gpm at 65'F Temp. Rise) of hot water for showers and baths.

Riva Boiler With Vertical Venting Is Ideal For Older Homes

As with many older homes, venting provided one of the greatest challenges for installation.  Venting alternatives were limited due to the improvements made to the home over the years. Sidewall venting would be impossible since the front of the home has a porch overlooking a lovely garden, the garage is on the side of the home and the back has a large patio for entertaining.
The Riva Combi is available with Vertical Venting that can use the existing chimney chase.  This is ideal in retrofit applications, like older homes, where the boiler is located in the basement where direct venting is not possible.  The Vertical Vent Kit consists of a co-axial pipe 5-1/2”OD that can easily fit into an 8” x 8” masonry chimney.

Biasi Radiator in Riva Home Installation

Zone Heating Required In Basement.

During the winter, our child's playroom in the basement was always too cold for her and her friends to use.  Heating up the room required the furnace to come on for the entire house and made the main floor uncomfortably hot.
Using BIASI European Panel Radiators activated by a separate thermostat in the playroom allowed us to create a separate heating zone.  If the thermostat in the playroom calls for heat, the panel radiators heat up quickly, but the fan coil heating the rest of the house does not come on.  BIASI Panel Radiators produce heat even at low input water temperatures.  Since we have young children playing in the room, and we were concerned with little hands being burned, so the input water temperatures of the radiators were set at 125 degrees F.

Hydronic Warm Air System Solves Lack of Humidity In Winter.

The home had been updated with new windows, doors and a large amount of insulation added in the roof.  Though these improvements significantly improved the energy efficiency of the home, this created significant discomfort as we experienced too little humidity during the winter months.
The newly installed Hydronic Warm Air System uses hot water provided by a high efficiency boiler combined with a hydronic fan coil to produce warm air.  The secret to increasing comfort levels lies in the ability of the system to maintain constant temperatures and humidity levels in the air.  By not scorching the air to heat it as we previously did, significantly less humidity is removed from the home during heating.
RESULT:  We feel more comfortable at temperatures 6 to 7 degrees lower on the thermostat than we previously had before.  Being able to turn down the thermostat, while maintaining our comfort level, allows us to reduce our heating costs.
